I don't know about you, but I was that kid who always looked forward to the first day of school. Oh, I talked a good game about not wanting summer to end and dreading homework, but the truth is that the first day of school was always fun. We got to meet our new teacher who ingratiated his or herself by taking it easy on us. We got to share what we did over the summer and play fun get-to-know-each-other-all-over-again games. Add that to lunch and recess and the first day was a breeze. The second day: a different story, but the first day was always good times. (sigh) If only adulthood would take some lessons from childhood. I say bring back nap time and recess, but as that isn't likely, how about at least bringing back the "fun first day"...of work that is. Most first days of work are spent filling out endless masses of paperwork; getting "the tour" from someone who would probably prefer to be getting some work done; being introduced to endless people whose names it's going to take you a week to remember anyway; and being told "I know it's a lot to take in all at once, but you'll get the hang of it" or something of the like. Whew! No fun, right! Hence, my proposal to bring back the fun first day. Your employees are your most valuable asset and you never get a second chance to make a first impression, so make their first day a day they will remember. Follow the jump to find out how.
