History was made today. The Supreme Court of the United States of America ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional. "The federal statute is invalid, for no legitimate purpose overcomes the purpose and effect to disparage and to injure those whom the State, by its marriage laws, sought to protect in personhood and dignity,” wrote Justice Kennedy in the majority opinion. Additionally, the Supreme Court chose to dismiss California's Prop 8. Here is an explanation of the SCOTUS' decisions.
